Over the last weekend five of our intrepid Scouts packed their rucksacks and went on a district run hike with hundred of other scouts from Melbourne. They bussed up to Tallarook National Park and participated in the annual Scout Hike, this year themed “Horrible Histories”. The aim is to hike to each of the 24 check points and complete an activity. Each patrol is scored on various things including the activity and efficient navigation and getting to checkpoints and sleep points on time. Jess was Patrol leader with Dara as Assistant Patrol Leader. Both executed their duty with distinction. Special mention must go to Jess who excelled in her detailed organisational skills.
Scouts must carry all their clothing, food, cooking equipment and tents, which means each Scout carried around 12-14 kilograms each!!
Our Scouts walked 17 kilometres over 2 days and won Bronze with 1100 points which is very commendable given we are not so very experienced in hiking.
Well done Jess and the other participating Scouts: Dara, Aiden, Josh and Sascha.
Also thanks to a Glen Eira Council grant we now have hiking rucksacks, trangias and brand new hiking tents!!

Hannah Bloom was invested into cubs last night. We’d like to welcome Hannah into our community and hope she has an amazing time earning badges and enjoying all that Scouting has to offer. Welcome Hannah and her parents Laney and Stephen to the 10th Caulfield community.

We’d like to welcome Jake into 10th Caulfield. Jake was invested into cubs last night, and it looks like there may be more Libermans joining in the future! Welcome Jake and we wish a wonderful Scouting life at 10th Caulfield.
Mum’s stayed back at cubs this week to play! Bagheera (David) ran this fun night and had the mums versus the cubs at games then later damper was made. From all accounts it was a great night for all.
Two of our leaders received Volunteer Recognition awards last night at the Glen Eira City Council’s Volunteer Recognition Program Ceremony.
Gary Brand received a Certificate of Appreciation for his 30+ years of service to Scouting. In reality Gary is into his 37th year of service!! Which is still a number I have trouble really comprehending!
Matt Minski received a Certificate of Appreciation for his 2000+ hours of service to Scouting. Matt lives for Scouting, just have a conversation with him and you’re instantly infected with his passion for his Scouting life.
We are lucky to have two very devoted people providing such a rich and rewarding experience to our children. It was a lovely evening of music, words and food, and a thoughtful gesture to all the volunteers in our district.
Four of our Scouts were also present. Ironically they were volunteering their time to usher people to their seats and also helping to serve supper. I received so much positive feedback from the staff and guests about the behaviour and manner of our Scouts. They were truly mensch’s last night. Thank you Sascha , Josh , Dara and Aidan .

We’d like to congratulate James Silver on his next chapter in Scouting. On ANZAC day, just after the dawn service Robert Hain our Venturer leader held a short ceremony to mark James moving up from Scouts to Venturers. James has been an invaluable Patrol Leader in the Scout section and we know he will become an integral part of 28th Venturer Unit as well. We wish James all the best on his continuing Scouting life.
Levi join’s 10th Caulfield tonight after making his Cub Scout promise and reciting the Cub Scout law in front of the whole Pack. We welcome Levi and his family into the 10th Caulfield community and hope he has a fantastic Scouting life.
For those not familiar with the promise and law, here it is:
The Cub Scout Promise
On my honour,
I promise that I will do my best,
To do my duty to my God, and
To Australia
To help other people, and
To live by the Cub Scout Law
The Cub Scout Law
A Cub Scout is loyal and obedient
Cub Scouts do not give into themselves.

It’s with vicarious pride that I celebrate achievements like the one that happened this week. Tristan Cliff completed his basic training as a Scout leader. Meaning he moves from being classed as a trainee to a fully fledged Assistant Scout Leader (ASL). Scouts Australia provide a brilliant array of online and face to face training programs to help our leaders become better at what they do. So although my leaders will possibly call me a pest when I nag them to complete their training, it is for the greater good of our group as well as a personal achievement for the leader involved. Mazel Tov Tristan, we are thankful to have you and your boundlessness enthusiasm, and hope it continues for years to come.

10th Caulfield and 1st McKinnon Scouts slept overnight in the hall and rose at 4am. We jumped on a tram and joined with 15th Brighton Scouts and 28th Glen Eira Venturers at the Shrine of Remembrance for the dawn service. It rained but that just added to the pre-dawn atmosphere as we listened to memories and stories that spanned 100 years. We filed though the Shrine and laid poppies. Thank you to Gary for organising the sleep over and to the Bajayo family for kindly hosting the scouts on Monday night for a movie.

“Your honour, it is alleged that our esteemed co-group leader, Jeremy King did, on his on own recognisance, leave Terra Australis and sojourned to the land of milky skin and dampness to compete in a foot race on Sunday April 23rd, 2017, of a distance no greater than 26 miles and 385 yards towit The London Marathon. It is recognised by this Group that he did compete and indeed complete said foot race in the time of 3 minutes 57 seconds and 20 milliseconds, thus beating his target of 4 hours by a bees appendage. If it pleases the Group we’d like to wish Jez a hearty mazel tov on this outstanding bucket list achievement. When asked for comment King replied…”So. Much. Pain”.
Safe home mate.

Well done to our 10 Scouts who just won gold Pennants at Stradbroke Cup 2017. Our Scouts setup and ran their own camp from Friday until Monday, cooking, cleaning and performing assigned tasks on a assessed camp. Their hard work paid off with an outstanding 201 and 200 scored out of a possible 203!
Congratulations to Evie (P.L.), Joel (A.P.L.), Josh, Sascha and Layla on Kookas Patrol, and Daniel (P.L.), Jessica (A.P.L.), Dara, Aiden and Sam on Seagulls Patrol.
Thanks go also to Gary and Tristan for all the support and preparation getting the Scouts up and back. Stradbroke Cup really teaches Scouts what Scouting is all about.
Welcome our newest cubs Ava and Lily to 10th Caulfield. Having spent time with Ava and Lily last weekend at our family camp it became quite apparent they are born cubs! They just have the right attitude and seem to ‘get’ what it means to be a cub scout. We welcome them along with Leah, Jason, David and Mihal to our community and know they will have a full and fun scouting life.

With 70 people in attendance 10th Caulfield’s Family Camp was set to be big, and it was. The weather could not have been better. We ate well thanks to Mish’s cooking and guidance in the kitchen. All the parents, cubs and scouts on Food Patrols did an amazing job at preparing our meals. In fact everyone got into the camp spirit. There was a wonderful “we are all in this together” feeling this weekend with everyone participating in the fun and not so fun parts of camp life. My thanks go out to all the cubs, scouts, siblings, parents, my leaders Matt, Sarah and Jacob and my amazing wife Mish for making the weekend special and memorable.

Last night 10th Caulfield Carnivores squared off against 15th Brighton Banditos for the inaugural Battle Royale. Cardboard fortresses were created (and destroyed) in a gluten-rich haze of flour bombs as the 2 Scout groups battled it out for Ultimate Supremacy. Who won? Fun won!!
Also we’d like to welcome Amos. His investiture was the calm before the battle. Welcome Amos!

Jessica Kaplan and her mum Hilary joined JECO (Jewish Ecological Coalition http://www.jeco.org.au/ ) and Love Our Street 3184 last Sunday March 5 (Clean up Australia Day) for a special local street clean up near the Holocaust Centre and surrounding streets which is near our scout hall.
Jess and Hilary spent a very productive morning assisting JECO in cleaning up the 2 roads outside the holocaust museum and the classic cinema. You cannot believe how much rubbish and how many cigarette butts we picked up.
Jess was a very good scout ambassador and the public were impressed with her efforts. Well done Jess!!
Scouts scaled dizzy heights last night at Bayside Rock in Carrum Downs. After a safety chat and some instructions Scouts split off in teams of 3 to start scaling the indoor rock climbing walls. Scouts took to this like a spiders to a web. Soon our scouts were zipping up these huge walls with no fear. Big thanks to Matt for driving the bus and Charlie for leading for the night. It was a another great scouting night!
